My project is about the relationship between two elements that creates a system, in which
functions according to the unique feature of each element.

The two components of the system are individual and independent, the first is formed by a linear
shape that has the ability to reconnect to other similar components, the second element, is much rigid and solid in the way it function, each cell consist of four surfaces that together they form a “closed” system, in which they do not have the ability to connect to similar cells, but has the ability to connect with the linear ones what makes it act like a “receiver” or a “container”.

Together they create a flexible system that can adapt and reconfigure its connectors to cope with different situations that might affect the way the it reacts.

When the two units attach one to another, they form a new and various kinds of cells, a group of attached
cells is called a tissue, each tissue has its own function in the system.


The components of the
system have the ability of continuous growth and renewal, in other words it’s an open-ended system
that have a living organism feature.
Nonetheless, this system also “knows” how to disassemble itself and come back to its primary units.

This is the model I started my project with. it is an interpretation of a "closed-open" system. it consists of a core and a surrounding element.

The four large wooden pieces resemble the closed system, as it does not connect to other similar ones. in contrast, the surrounding elements resemble much more open system, in the way they function, as its more capable of connecting to similar elements.



The series of iterations I did discusses the essence of the system. how does it function, and what are the components of it. mainly consists of digital modelling and analyzing deferent parts of the system. each iteration helped me develop and build up the idea of the continuously growing system.


The first iteration (picture num.1) is a "section in motion", this is my attempt to capture the components floating in space while forming the model.

The second iteration ( picture num.2), was an isometric view that adds another layer of the formation of the model. witch is the interaction between the two elements. we can see that the core is reacting to the surrounding, forming "holes" allowing the two systems fully integrate one in the other.

As a line placed in space, it resembles an infinite shape, as two lines intersect they start to resemble two
dimensional or three dimensional object. As more than two lines intersect they start to form a certain system that
relies on the way they are attached together.
A surface is a two-dimensional boundary that can be flat or curved.
Space is the unlimited three-dimensional expanse in which all material objects are located.
Combining lines and surfaces in space, would create an infinite intersected objects, in which together they
form a system.

Final Submission

My final submission consists of three documents, the first is a perspective
image capturing the system in a state of development and growth. the second document is a diagram, it describes the evolution of the system, from where it all starts until its unlimited potential of growth. the third document is a plan for the whole system, it shows the connection and the scale of each tissue in the system, it gives a clear view of how the system works.
The name of the project, Matrixiology is a combination of matrix + biology. as the word matrix describes an environment in which something develops. and biology is the study of living organisms.
